Mary Rita Parnell (nee Durkin), 74, of Cold Spring, KY (formerly of Alexandria, KY) passed peacefully at home in presence of family on Tuesday, February 24, 2015. She was a member of Saint Mary Parish and Senior Club, J-Club, Newport Elks Lodge # 273 Ladies Auxiliary, Alexandria Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the Red Hat Society. Rita was preceded in death by her parents, John and Dee Durkin and a brother, Jerry Durkin. She is survived by her husband, Thomas "Tom" Parnell of Cold Spring; daughters, Lisa (Russ) Thacker of Cold Spring and Lori (Todd) Sayers of Alexandria; grandson, Thomas Sayers; sister, Carol Miller of Crestview and several nieces and nephews. Visitation 9:30 AM – 11:45 AM Saturday, February 28, 2015 at Saint Mary of the Assumption Church with Mass of Christian Burial following at 12:00 PM. Interment will be in the Saint Mary Cemetery, Alexandria, KY. Alexandria Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Memorials are requested to Saint Mary School Tuition Assistance Program, 9 S. Jefferson St., Alexandria, KY 41001 or to Saint Mary Parish, 8246 E Main St, Alexandria, KY 41001.
